Damnit, I’m boring af. Machines are named by their model for laptops/consumer devices and buy their CPU for home built stuff.

Except for Crimson-Binome.local 🏴‍☠️

Having just jumped over I might be bottom of the priority list for company communications.

Having just jumped from Google to Nameheap this is more than mildly frustrating. *edit:* apparently this is the result of Verisign putting up their wholesale prices

I was with Google Domains but switched to Namecheap. They are easy enough to work with and not the most expensive.

Lazy users is why Reddit blotted out individual forums.

Super impressed with Sharry, I love the QR codes for sharing with mobile users.

Looks like you solved it but I moved from Google DNS to Namecheap and it works well. I use multiple subdomains and certbot without issue.

If you use strong passwords and keep an eye on your logs you are no less safe than any other public facing entity. I’ve had a bunch of services exposed since 2020 so far no one has even bothered to brute the basic auth on Apache (though bot nets take a run at SSH a few times a year).

Yes! I have been running Zoneminder since 2020 with no complaints.

For first time/new users I would suggest one thing, try it in a VM first and take notes. Some of the settings take a little tweaking and when you have it all hammered out you can just follow your notes to set up your production machine. When I upgraded my server I was able to set up a brand new ZM instance with 8 cameras in about a half hour because I had my notes.

I transferred 2 domains to NameCheap and the whole process took less than 2 hrs from first click to done. I messed up my wildcard+DDNS but that wasn’t NameCheap’s fault and only took a few min to sort out.

I have another domain with NameCheap, they seem ok and I’ll probably transfer over to them. Better to make a little extra work for myself than wait for some Google/Squarspace to run me through a ringer.
