Neber tried it with Android Auto before, but I doubt it would, it’s a mesh vpn - not a typical vpn(proxy). So Tailscale is mostly for connecting your own devices together, however it’s possible that configure it to use Mullvad for exit nodes, if needed.

Have a look at Tailscale for your devices, this will prevent you from having to expose anything to the Internet, but rather having it behind your own VPN solution. Tailscale is the kinda service that is stupid easy to get going with too. HIGHLY recommend it!

Happy to be a paying customer of Ente, always delivering 🙌

Very neat! Been looking for a good alternative for Spotify for a while, I hope this can completely cure me 🙌

What storage manufacturer do you swear to and why?
There are quite a few choices of brands when it comes to purchasing harddisks or ssd, but which one do you find the most reliable one? Personally had great experiences with SeaGate, but heard ChrisTitus had the opposite experience with them. So curious to what manufacturers people here swear to and why? Which ones do you have the worst experience with?

I used to use Portainer quite a bit, but after migrating to Unraid i feel like their UI was a bit superior in most ways (for my use), but thanks:)

What’s a simple logging service?
Hiya, I'm looking to keep track of my different services in hosting via Unraid. Right now I'm hosting roughly 12 different services, but would be nice to have the logs of all my services in one place, preferably with a nice GUI. Are there any such services that could easily connect to the different docker containers I have running? Appreciate any suggestions 🙌

Wow wow! Just trying the demo out feels super snappy and good, also crazy how fast the images load compared to other solutions i’ve tried! Will defo give this a shot when available on Unraid (Unless i do it myself).

Here’s a 🌻 as my appreciation for your work!

Yepp, fair point and likely what will end up happening :P

I like the idea! Although I do have a Nvidia Shield Pro, but I have a look around and see if there are any specific good TV OS that suits my needs. Thanks!

Services to host on a retired laptop?
Hello fellow hosters, I recently had to purchase a new laptop because my old laptop([MSI - PS63 Modern 8RC](https://www.msi.com/Content-Creation/PS63-MODERN-8RX/Specification)) had its hinges finally give in, so the screen(lid) can barely be opened and closed anymore. The laptop isn't totally outdated yet in terms of specs. I already have a server that hosts most of my day to day apps, but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to what i could host on this retired laptop, that I would manage remotely. Are there any specific services that makes more sense to host on a laptop that would be sitting turned on but put away somewhere? Or should I just tear the PC apart for it's parts and throw the rest away? Let me know if you have any similar experiences or tips 🌻

Although correct, there feature set is amazing and expanding. Tailscale is my number one tool of choice, these days, it’s so simple and so handy.

NextDNS is awesome if you want the simple solution, and don’t have any hardware to install services on. Thee free version is somehwta limited to queries(300k per month), but personally didn’t hit those when I was using the free tier.

NextDNS has a lot of nice customization and can easily had custom block lists. The pro version is 2euros a month I believe. I personally stick with NextDNS due to never having to worry about updating the service and it always just works. I also have it hooked to my Tailnet, that way all my devices use it by default.

But ofc, Pihole, Adguard and the rest are also awesome. Best to just pick one that looks good for you. The end goal here is to just have something running in the background rather than nothing.

Totally go with Tailscale, can’t stress how nice it is.

How does RSS work under the hood?
Wasn't quite sure where to ask this question, but figured if anyone, it would be selfhosters who are mostly into RSS. I've recently been getting into RSS feeds for reading my news, watching YT (via FreeTube) and listening to podcasts - and its been nothing but great! However I was wondering how RSS works under the hood. I couldn't find many good sources on it, so if you have any good reads please hit me up. My main question; *is RSS a one-way protocol?* Considering when using Freetube or Newpipe, it's able to fetch videos, views and comments etc, but I assume its only a one way thing seeing one cannot comment or like the video? And I guess this applies to podcasts and news sites as well? What happens during podcasts if I skip ads during the podcast? Does that hurt the podcaster, in the sense that I am skipping the ad-section, or does it still count as the RSS feed has already been "pulled" to my device? If anyone could help clear this up for me I would greatly appreciate it :)

Thanks for this! I actually just found yet another 2TB HDD that I had forgotten about, so I might just go for what you said! Leaves me with 5TB for now and 10TB for the parity.

Questions around disk space and parity in unraid
So I recently found out that I have sh*t my leg... I was about to set up unraid but just before dipping my toes I was told that the parity drive needs to be the same or larger in size, really wish I had done more thorough reseach before recently buying that 10TB HDD hehe... My planned setup was; 250 GB - SSD (Cache) 1 TB - HDD (Parity) 2 TB - HDD (Pool) 10 TB - HDD (Pool) So what are my option now that I have messed that up, what would you recommend? To go without parity or is there another way? Any help is appriciated, I am still quite new to selfhosting/linux :) **UPDATE**; I can trade the 10TB for two 4TB disks + the extra. Should I?

Yeah that is definitely something that is important to me.

How much does it matter where my domain registrar is located?
Edit, Solved in comments 👌 I want to buy a domain name for personal usage (reverse proxy, selfhosting serivces). I'll probably go with a general purpose `.net` or my country specifc one. I am based in Northern Europe. - Does it matter based on where I am located where the domain is registered? - Any recommendations for domain registrars in that regard? Thanks

I ended up doing this and it worked swimmingly! ✨

Big shout out to Gluetun VPN for making it so easy!

As much as this would be super neat, I just paid for the Proton subscription… having me reconsider though :P

Tailscale + VPN possible?
Hi peeps, a little lost in the self-hosting world right now, and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I've just set up all the *arr apps that i want and need for media, music and books. And am at the step where i am supposed to bind a VPN to my qBittorrent. However, I am ofc running everything behind the beloved Tailscale. But just realised I am not allowed to run tailscale at the same time as another VPN(ProtonVPN in my case). How do i get past this cross-road? I really want to stick with using Tailscale for accessing my services. Is a reverse proxy something i should look into instead? I need my server to sit behind a VPN.. Appreciate any tips or tricks for how other people solved this buckle.

Look forwards to trying this on my phone 👌
